HOW LIV2RUN IS CHANGING LIVES THROUGH TRAIL RUNNING
When the runners of LIV2Run arrived in Chamonix for the 2026 HOKA UTMB Mont-Blanc, they brought much more than race ambitions. They carried with them stories of resilience, opportunity, and the transformative power of sport.
Born out of LIV Durban, LIV2Run, a South African organization dedicated to supporting vulnerable children and communities, uses running as a platform to create opportunities and change lives. What began as a passion for running has evolved into a purpose-driven project that helps young athletes discover their potential, both on and off the trails.
Officially established in 2018, LIV2Run works with athletes from disadvantaged communities across South Africa, providing coaching, mentorship, race opportunities, and life skills education. Their mission is simple yet powerful: to restore, raise, and release athletes into a future filled with possibility.
More than a running team, LIV2Run is a family. Senior athletes serve as coaches and mentors, helping the next generation develop not only as runners but also as individuals. Weekly training sessions are combined with lessons focused on leadership, teamwork, communication, problem-solving, and personal growth.
Their presence at HOKA UTMB Mont-Blanc reflects the growing impact of initiatives that make trail running more accessible and inclusive. It is a reminder that the sport has the power to connect people across cultures, backgrounds, and continents through a shared passion for the mountains and the trails.
At MUT by UTMB, we are proud to celebrate projects like LIV2Run that embody the spirit of our sport: community, perseverance, and the belief that running can be a force for positive change. Because every runner's journey matters, and some journeys have the power to inspire an entire community.
